SLT Positions, Committees and Roles for Productions

Below are some descriptions (not exact) of the Officers, Committees led by the Board of Directors and some of the roles that are fulfilled by Board members and members at large within a Production. All committees must be Chaired by at least one Board member and being on a committee requires only that you become a member of the theatre by purchasing a single membership pass.

President - Chairperson of the Board. Holds monthly Board meetings where the Committee Chairs discuss the progress of their committee. Holds voting at each meeting if necessary and oversees Administration and Productions Committee.

Vice-President - Chairperson of the Board if the president is absent, sick, leaves office or is removed from Office. Oversees the Administration and Productions Committee

Secretary - Records minutes at every meeting and prepares them for the next meeting. Receives the official mail for the Theatre and oversees all official background checks, and anything that must remain confidential within the Theatre.

Treasurer - Oversee the finances of the Theatre and helps to prepare the financial report for every Board Meeting.

Administration Committee - Co-Chaired by the President and Vice-President of the Theatre.  This committee is made up of the officers of the Board (President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer) and oversees the committee structure and the creation of the Ballot for elections every season.

Productions Committee - Co-Chaired by the President and Vice-President of the Theatre. This committee is made up of Board Members and Members at Large and is charged with creating the season of shows that is presented to the Board of Directors for Final Approval. This is where the decisions are made for which shows are being produced every season. The Costume Committee, Dance Committee, and Youth Committee are sub-committees of the Production Committee.

Costume Committee - This committee is made up of Board Members and Members at Large and is charged with creating and/or gathering the costumes necessary for each show produced.

Dance Committee - This committee is made up of Board Members and Members at Large and is charged with Assigning and overseeing the Choreography Directors that work with the Director for each show produced if dance is needed.

House Committee - This committee is made up of Board Members and Members at Large and is charged with the upkeep and cleaning of the facility and leading the build for all sets on each show produced.

Publicity Committee - This committee is made up of Board Members and Members at Large and is charged with creating the publicity for each show and gathering the donations and funds each season.

Technical Committee - This committee is made up of Board Members and Members at Large and is charged with creating and fulfilling the roles to create and run the the special effects (lighting, haze, sound, etc.) for each show produced.

Youth Committee (Under Construction) - This committee is made up of Board Members, Members at Large and most importantly youth participants of the theatre (actors and crew). It is charged with influencing the Youth Production (grades 6-12) that is proposed to the Productions Committee.

Director - Has successfully been an AD (Assistant Director) or MD (Musical Director) at SLT and has been selected by the Productions Committee to Direct a show in the upcoming season. This person has most if not all creative control over the production. They are the BOSS for the creation of that show.

Producer - Is the liaison to the Board of Directors for the Director of each show, they get their Director whatever they need to help create their vision and oversee the finances of the show. This person is selected by the Director and approved  by the Board of Directors. This person must be an active Board member and not the Director of the show.

Assistant Director (AD) - Has been selected by the Director and approved by the Productions Committee to assist the Director however they may need. It may be in note taking, assisting with blocking, overseeing crew, etc.

Musical Director (MD) - Has been selected by the Director and approved by the Productions Committee to assist the Director however they may need with Music if necessary in a show (such as a musical play). 

Choreography Director (CD) - Has been selected by the Director and approved by the Productions  Committee to assist the Director however they may need with Choreography, this may require additional Choreographers or only the CD.

Technical Director (TD) - Has been selected by the Director and approved by the Technical Committee to assist the Director however they may need with the roles to create and run the the special effects (lighting, haze, sound, etc.) for each show produced.

Stage Manager and Assistant Stage Manager  (SM & ASM) - Has been selected by the Director and work in tandem to make sure all set and technical duties are followed. They call the master cues and are the BOSS while a production is session with an audience.

Stage Hand (SH) - They work for the Stage Managers and assist them however they may need. It may be in moving things, running fly-drops, placing set pieces. etc.

Property Master (PM) - They work for the Stage Managers and assist them however they may need however it is usually is in conjunction with props for the actors as needed.
